ABOUT the EAST REGIMENT of Salem

On December 13th, 1636, the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony ordered that the Colony’s militia to be organized into three regiments: the North, South, and East Regiment. All males between the ages of 16 and 60 from that day forward were required to bear arms and participate in the community’s defense. In response to the growing threat of the Pequot Natives, the militia prepared with weekly drills and guard details. On an unspecified date in 1637, the East Regiment officially mustered for the first time on the Salem Common to mobilize in its defense. This event marked the birth of the modern day National Guard. On May 4th, 2002, the monument was dedicated to honor its historical significance.

In January of 2013, President Barack Obama signed legislation sponsored by Massachusetts Congressman John Tierney, which officially designated Salem as the birthplace of the National Guard. Each year, the city honors the First Muster with a ceremony conducted by service members, veterans, and community supporters.

About the east regiment beer co.

The two Creators of East Regiment were friends from high school. Scott is Navy Veteran while Josh spent time as a Merchant Marine. While working their professions both independently developed love for craft beer and home brewing. So in 2014 they began planning East Regiment to turn a hobby into a new career.

Scott and Josh headed back to Salem and acquired an old, really old brick building (The Old Fire Station) in the heart of downtown Salem. Over the course of a year they completely transforming the dilapidated basement into a brewery featuring a hand built a 3bbl Nano brew system.

They decided to use the East Regiment and its Colonial Flag to represent the brewery because like East Regiment Beer Co. it was forged with determination. They also wanted to give a nod to New England and its pioneering beginnings, and its resident’s pioneering spirit while highlighting a piece of Salem’s long history, aside from that whole Witch thing…

East Regiment’s beers are inspired by this area, its historical aspects, favorite pastimes and cuisines, and the outdoors. We strive to exemplify New England Beer and represent our region with pride.
